Owner and Lead Tutor
Meet James, the owner of Socrates Private Tuition and its lead tutor. James has a keen interest across the humanities, with strong knowledge in English, and continental literatures, fine art, philosophy, and Greek and Roman classics. He’s a first-class BA in History of Art and a Master’s in English Literature (focusing on the Eighteenth Century) from King’s College London; and has developed a lifelong love for reading and writing poetry, cultivating a deep appreciation for diverse literary forms. In his spare time he has a passion for collecting rare and antique books, reflecting a dedication to preserving literary history. He writes poetry to a high-standard, from sonnets to longer-narrative works. In addition to this, he also has an interest in antiques, and the decorative arts, that enrich his understanding of culture across the millennia. James is also an avid enthusiast of classical music and opera, drawing inspiration from timeless works within the classical canon; his favourites being Henry Purcell and baroque music, especially the music of Johann Sebastian Bach.
James has gained valuable experience working in an "outstanding" school in Richmond upon Thames, and is excited to launch his private tuition business. He is fully DBS checked, and is trained in keeping children safe and following correct standards; ensuring your child is always well-looked after and their needs are considered. Through this online platform, he aims to provide tailored educational support to students nationwide, fostering a love for learning in a supportive and engaging environment. His goal is to help students develop critical thinking skills and gain a deeper understanding of the subjects they study, all while providing the best in efficient and tailored service.

For your convenience, we kindly request that payment is completed on booking your sessions, ensuring a smooth and efficient process. Please fill out the form, we can then arrange a short video or phone call to discuss your needs, and I will then forward you an invoice.
